Companies nowadays have so much riding on that they cannot afford to take small unnecessary gambles. Some companies deal with large amounts of stock and raw materials and these are the basic ingredients for them to conduct their business operations. Should these inventories go missing, these companies and their industries would suffer as a result of the lost incurred. Therefore the implementation and application of basic security features are vital for a company’s perpetual business succession. These systems should not be underestimated as they might help companies avoid millions in damage and losses.

The most basic and convenient form of a security system would be the installation of Close Circuit Television within the vicinity of the company compounds. CCTVs by using video cameras to transmit signals to a specific place, usually a control room with different monitor displays for different camera points. Video cameras are usually placed at highly susceptible strategic locations with the camera aligned to get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding. The use of CCTV systems can help companies with crime prevention and prevalence. Criminals would be deterred should there be CCTVs present to monitor their actions. Another plus point of CCTVs would be to monitor company operations and prevent internal fraud. Sometimes the worm lies within the apple, therefore necessary internal control measures should be undertaken by companies.

Beside CCTV application, companies could also opt for physical security controls such as door locks, safes and limited access doors. Physical security features are considered to be the backbone of a company’s plight against fraud and criminal activities. The use of safes to store valuables is highly encouraged, with the unlocking combination or key made available to only authorized personnel. The use of door locks can also help companies keep their inventories and valuables housed safely. However these security features have their own flaws. Safes and locks can be breached by breaking in or stealing the key or unlocking combination. Putting these flawed security systems aside, we then have fingerprint identification for door accessing as the new cutting edge security system.
Fingerprint access requires the recognition of the exact fingerprints of the authorized personnel to gain access. It also refers to the automated method of verifying a match between two fingerprints. Fingerprint sensors are used to capture a digital image of the fingerprint pattern. The image is then scanned and processed to create a biometric template which is used for storing and matching. The unique feature of fingerprint recognition is that each living individual possesses different sets of fingerprints; even your fingerprints on your left won’t match with the fingerprints on your right. The use of fingerprint recognition as a security system feature can provide enhanced security levels. It can also help with maintaining the efficiency of employee attendance. Employees would have to be actually present to place their prints on the scanner to verify their attendance rather than pledging an alliance with a colleague to verify their attendance.

Companies worldwide should seriously consider the implementation of security systems to ensure that their business does not suffer unnecessary losses. A first step would be for companies to opt for basic security systems and should there be a need to for enhancements, considerations can be made to enhance their security with more advanced systems.
